The local socials blew up with disbelief recently when it was revealed that longtime DJ Gary Calamar would be exiting L.A. public radio outlet KCRW. Calamar, a gifted music supervisor and a singer/songwriter in his own right in addition to being a beloved local radio personality, hosted "The Open Road," one of the best shows on the Santa Monica station where he was an on-air personality for 25 years.
But Calamar's "radio vacation" was short-lived, as he's been grabbed by another SoCal outlet, KCSN (88.5FM), where he'll begin broadcasting on 10/7 in the 5-7pm slot.
GM/PD Sky Daniels sang the praises of his "keen sensibility," and adding "His instincts for melody make him a wonderful addition to the 88.5 FM staff."
Added Calamar, "I am thrilled to get behind the microphone at KCSN, where we share a love for adventurous pop music both timely and timeless."
Later, Gary declined to take calls from a HITS editor asking for a superset of Phil Manzanera, Brinsley Schwarz and Spoon.
