MIKE DENNEEN,
1964-2018

Mike Denneen, a producer/engineer/mixer known for his work with Fountains of Wayne, Letters to Cleo and his wife Jennifer Trynin, died at his home in Watertown, Mass., on 7/10, more than three years after being diagnosed with colon cancer. He was 54.

A pianist who studied political science at Yale, Denneen opened the Q Division studio in Boston in 1986, a year after graduating college. The Pixies, James Taylor, Aimee Mann and Liz Phair are a few of the artists who recorded at Q Division, which moved to Somerville, Mass., in 2000.

Deneen produced an extensive number of records for budding alternative bands in the 1990s and 2000s, among them The Cavedogs, Gigolo Aunts, Guster, The Click Five and Howie Day. Denneen produced Fountains of Wayne’s biggest hit, “Stacy’s Mom,” at the studio.

Denneen was also an associate professor at Berklee College of Music and Board President at the Mosesian Center for the Arts.
