WILLIE SINGS FRANK

After discovering a pile of old sheet music and a copy of Frank Sinatra’s Ring-a-Ding-Ding that sat underneath a Hefty bag of weed in his kitchen, Willie Nelson went into the studio and recorded 11 Great American Songbook tunes for his next Legacy album.

Well, maybe it didn’t quite happen that way. Still, Willie’s latest dip into the classics, titled My Way, comes out 9/14. The angle this time is that Nelson has recorded 11 songs associated with his old pal Sinatra, among them “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Night And Day” and the title track. Sony’s Legacy has released the first single, “Summer Wind,” and a video for the track.

"I learned a lot about phrasing listening to Frank," Willie recently told AARP Magazine. "He didn't worry about behind the beat or in front of the beat, or whatever—he could sing it either way, and that's the feel you have to have."

Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings produced the album, Nelson’s second release this year.
