KANYE KEEPS TROLLING, ON BEAT

It's been three years since we've had any new Kanye West music, and his return to the fold so far has been...memorable.

On Friday 4/27, Yeezy made good on a morning tweet promising new music that would "bring Ebro (morning DJ from Hot 97) the closure he's been seeking." He then dropped something called "Lift Yourself." More about that in a moment, but we should note that another song was released to all digital services.

As we reported earlier, Ebro had taken Ye to task about his Donald Trump love, setting off a wave of backlash that had John Legend trying to reason with him, Chance The Rapper trying to defend him and Snoop Dogg completely burying him.

The new "track" certainly has a message, much in the same way a meme does. It begins with a sample (from Amnesty's "Liberty" that dates back to 1973) and contains the lyrics

"The hang ups we have today
We need to strive for more liberty
Lift yourself upon your feet, let's get it on."

Although it explodes into a bit of a geniune banger—West is not to be trifled with when it comes to production skill—it soon devolves into what could only be described as cry-face-emoji trolling by Ye, with a verse that was maybe written by North.

"Poop-de-di scoop
Scoop-de-di whoop
Whoopty scoopty poop
Poop-di scoopty
Scoopty whoop
Whoop-de-di scoop, whoop poop
Poop-de-di, scoop, whoop
Poop, poop
Scoop-de-di whoop
Whoop-de-di scoop
Whoop-de-di scoop, poop."

Listen for yourselves here.

A few hours after delivering his own version of mumble rap, West premiered another new track featuring T.I., called “Ye vs. the People” via the airwaves of local Los Angeles FM Power 106, who played it on a loop. The song, which subsequently hit all DSPs, mimics a political debate between the two, touching on a variety of subjects like Trump, Obama and police brutality. As of 4/29 it was outside the Top 50 on Spotify and Apple Music.

Ye's 7-track album is currently set to arrive 6/1.
