Receiving the Pulitzer Prize has pumped new life into Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. as it heads to #4 at iTunes. Is he reaching a new audience?
Released by TDE/Aftermath/Interscope a full year ago, the album, Lamar’s fourth, was out of the Top 100 at iTunes on Sunday while still generating some plays at Apple Music.
At Amazon, DAMN. is in the Top 10 overall while it’s the #1 Rap album, a double vinyl Collectors Edition is #2 and the standard vinyl is #4.
It has risen steadily since the Monday announcement that the “mega-dope” collection would be the first popular music collection to receive the prize previously awarded to classical and jazz works. The iTunes and Amazon rises indicate the album is potentially reaching a new audience after having sold more than 3m Album Equivalent Units. It is also #21 at Apple Music, where the only older titles in the Top 50 are only by Drake and J. Cole.
