Fulfilling a promise he made fans during a surprise 4/5 appearance on the Toronto stage of his OVO Sound artist Majid Jordan, Drake dropped a new song on Thursday, "Nice For What," sampling Lauryn Hill with an accompanying female-focused video you can check out below. It is #1 at iTunes and Apple Music.
Drake has consistently delivered new music at a steady pace, even if we haven't had an official full-length album from him since 2016's VIEWS. Even more remarkably, the artist bests his own success with each release.
The "playlist" project More Life and its heavy South African vibes broke streaming records with songs like "Fake Love," until Drizzy came back around in January with "Diplomatic Immunity" and "God's Plan" — a song that has smashed every streaming record at both Spotify and Apple Music while spending over a month on top of the radio airplay charts.
And let's not forget the fire collaborations he has in play right now as well: the feature with Migos for "Walk It Talk It" and his hilarious cameo in their Soul Train-inspired video, plus BlocBoy JB's "Look Alive," which has the Memphis rapper currently exploding up the charts as well.
“The reason I’m here tonight is because I’m back in the city finishing my album,” Drake told the audience in Toronto on Thursday.
But will it be this year? We've had other hints about that.
"I'll be back in 2018 to give you the summary," is the closing line of the very last track on More Life, "Do Not Disturb." Since Drake has a well-established pattern of telling us exactly what he's up to in verse, let's see what happens next.
