CHART STORY: CULTURE  IN CONTROL

Red-hot Quality Control/Motown/Capitol trio Migos has secured the #1 spot on our Top 50 Chart, moving 200k in Culture II’s first week out.

The only other debut in the Top 40 belongs to AnjunabeatsAbove & Beyond, whose Common Ground lands at #5 with 39k.

Then there are the Grammy bumps. Naturally, Atlantic’s Bruno Mars, who swept the Big Three categories, sees one of the more noteworthy ascensions, going #14-3, up 169%. Best New Artist nominees, show performers and RCA labelmates Khalid and SZA also move the needle. The former’s American Teen (Right Hand) and the latter’s CTRL (TDE) soar #12-9 and #26-14, respectively. Mercury Nashville’s Chris Stapleton, who won three awards (Country Solo Performance, Song and Album), also benefits from the big show and even more from SNL. His latest release, From A Room: Volume 2 re-enters the chart at #15, while Volume 1 re-enters at #25. His 2015 breakout album, Traveller, goes #45-23. The Grammy nominees compilation, meanwhile, moves #32-19, P!nk’s Beautiful Trauma (RCA) glides #42-21 and Childish Gambino’s “Awaken, My Love!” (Glassnote) returns to the Top 50 at #37.

When it comes to marketshare, UMG is in the lead with 52%, WMG is #2 with 27% and SME is #3 with 16%, while the indies claim 5%.

And in case you didn’t know, because you’ve been living under a rock (which would be totally understandable, given the state of our country), Justin Timberlake’s Man of the Woods (RCA) streets this week—just in time for his Super Bowl halftime performance. Expect that to land a very big #1. Other new releases include Sony Legacy’s Lady Bird soundtrack and Now’s Now 65, as well as a new set from Red Bull’s AWOLNATION.
