BRUNO'S CO-WRITERS WEIGH IN

When Bruno Mars won Record of the Year, four of the eight songwriters on “That’s What I Like” were discussing the song’s creation backstage. “We’ve been friends with him for over 10 years and when we started we were joking around and having fun,” said Jonathan Yip, one of The Stereotypes. “We started with a couple records and when we got to that one [he said] ‘I need that bounce.’ We got that bounce together.”

Ray Romulus, a percussionist who works mostly on rhythm elements, said the songs all start with Bruno. “He’s the beginning and the end. We help him bring it together and toward the end, he’ll finalize and say when its ready to go.”
