FLEETWOOD MAC
IN ORBIT

In conjunction with the Hall of Fame band’s MusiCares Person of the Year celebration tonight at Radio City Music Hall, SiriusXM is launching the limited-run Fleetwood Mac Channel, starting next Thursday, 2/1.

SiriusXM’s standard programming for dedicated artist channels from Tom Petty to Bruce Springsteen—encompassing the hits, deep tracks, solo material, live recordings, rarities, musical influences and hosted shows from bandmembers—will be in effect. In the case of Fleetwood Mac, this approach will be a cornucopia, ranging from the Peter Green-led Fleetwood Mac Blues Band of the 1960s and its American blues influences through the undervalued early-’70s iterations featuring Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer and Bob Welch as well as their myriad touchstones to the long-running (with hiccups) latter-day lineup.

Rhino this month reissued an expanded version of Big Mac’s 1975 self-titled LP—the first to feature Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.

The duration of the Fleetwood Mac Channel hasn’t been announced, but there appears to be some flexibility on that front. For example, Hotel California, the Eagles Channel, which superseded Mike Marrone’s The Loft—the most eclectic channel on satellite radio—on 11/17, was expected to end at the end of the year but has been extended through the month of January, to the ongoing dismay of the displaced Loft community. The Fleetwood Mac Channel, on the other hand, will be on channel 4, bumping only the promotional SiriusXM Spotlight, ensuring that there will be no complaints.
