Best New Artist Grammy nominee Julia Michaels has been unusually open concerning her bouts with anxiety, but in a recent essay published with Glamour, the Republic singer/songwriter went into greater depth.
In the piece, found here, Michaels describes her struggle to escape from the rabbit hole of mental illness.
"When you're stuck in that vicious cycle it’s easy to think that you may never get out," she said on feeling stuck in a place of self-doubt and uncertainty. But the star (who first established herself as a hit songwriter for other artists) also talked about what helped to pull her out of that vicious cycle, citing a weekend of songwriting with Benny Blanco and Ed Sheeran and crediting her pursuit of songwriting to her battle with anxiety.
