ED SHEERAN LEADS SPOTIFY GLOBALLY
Ed Sheeran tops Spotify’s list as the most streamed artist of 2017 globally with 47 million monthly listeners. His ÷ (Atlantic) was the most streamed album of the year worldwide (3.1b streams), and “Shape of You” became the most streamed track of all time on Spotify, now with over 1.4b streams.
In the U.S., Drake was the #1 male, Rihanna was the top female, Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. was the most-streamed album and his “HUMBLE” was the most-streamed track.
Sheeran thoroughly dominated the U.K. Spotify charts.
Spotify had other findings on the year: Hip-hop listening increased 74% over the past year; Latin music listening increased by 110%, driven by “Despacito” and “Mi Gente”; Rihanna is the most-streamed female artist for the third year in the row; and Camila Cabello, Harry Styles and Liam Payne were the top three breakout artists globally this year.
