Can an A&R executive make a scripted TV show about A&R work? NBC is betting on Simon Cowell to do what few have succeeded at: make the inner-workings of a record label commercially palatable.
Cowell’s Syco has sold a script to NBC for A&R, the story of a hip music label and how its executives deal with their new boss—a hard-partying boss from rock music’s golden age, Variety reported. It’s no Empire: This show is a comedy.
Cowell is exec producing with Scott Bernstein, Peter Samson and Josh Lieb, who wrote the script. It is Syco’s first sale of the season.
