WE CAN WORK IT OUT: SONY/ATV CONFIRMS RESOLUTION WITH
SIR PAUL

Sony/ATV is confirming without further comment that "the parties have resolved the matter" with respect to Sir Paul McCartney's legal action based on The Copyright Act of 1976, which would've begun returning songwriting rights to the Cute Beatle as of next year, the stipulated 56 years after original copyright.

The publisher had not disputed McCartney's prior suit, filed early this year, asking the court to certify his pending reclamation of rights. The 56-year date for the first of the Beatles copyrights would be 10/5/18. Stay tuned; yeah, yeah, yeah.

How other claims for copyright reversion will be handled, of course, is another can of worms. Artist and estate managers have already got the can opener.
