Capitol Records’ Katy Perry is the first artist in RIAA history to earn three Diamond Song Awards now that "Roar" has surpassed the 10-million threshold of song sales and streams in the U.S.
Perry’s "Dark Horse" and "Firework" had previously achieved the feat. Besides these three, another 18 of Perry’s songs have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum. Three of her studio albums have also been certified platinum or multi-platinum.
"Once again, Katy Perry has made history," said Cary Sherman, Chairman and CEO of the RIAA. "Only 14 songs have earned Diamond status to date, and Katy owns three of them—what a remarkable achievement and testament to a groundbreaking artist."
In a related story, Sherman is rumored to wear a diamond-encrusted grill.
