Three singular vocalists have attracted the attention of thumbs in the past week: Justin Bieber, Drake and the man many consider the greatest male soul singer in history.
Bieber’s collaboration with David Guetta, “2U” (What A Music/Def Jam rises 181 slots to #20 on this week’s Shazam USA Top 100, followed closely by DJ Khaled f/Drake’s “To the Max” (We The Best/Epic), which is up 173 to #28.
The popularity of the Guetta and Khaled singles know no borders as both are high among the U.K.'s greatest gainers. Kygo's "Stole the Show," which was on an episode of Grey's Anatomy last year, is the week's top gainer.
Bieber's tremendous influence has already been registered for some time, as two tracks on which he guests remain among Shazam's toppermost of the poppermost, including #1 song Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" and Khaled's "I'm the One" (#3). Will the Guetta track give him a trifecta in the Top 5 sometime soon?
Otis Redding’s “(I’ve Got) Dreams to Remember” is up 127 slots to #74 after its appearance in the 6/4 finale of HBO’s The Leftovers. Stax released the track, currently handled by Rhino, in 1966, a year before soul music legend’s death.
Yo Gotti & Mike WiLL Made-It’s surprise release from Thursday, “Rake It Up” f/Nicki Minaj (Gotti Made-It) rises 127 slots to #74.
Among the other big gainers: Atlantic's Bruno Mars with "Versace on the Floor" (+109), X Ambassadors with "Unsteady" (KidinAKorner/Interscope) and SYCO/Epic's Fifth Harmony with "Down" (which moves #118-76). The latter also makes a big move in the U.K.
