KATY TALKS IDOL, ALBUM, TOUR ON ELLEN

Confirming previous rumors, Capitol’s Katy Perry will indeed join ABC’s American Idol as a judge.

She cryptically confirmed her new gig on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. When asked by Ellen about Idol, Katy said, “Judge not lest he be judged, but they didn’t say anything about constructive criticism and I’m good at that.”

“We are thrilled to be ushering in this new era of American Idol with Katy leading the charge,” said ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey.“Her incredible accolades speak for themselves. We are so lucky to have this strong and talented woman help inspire and guide the next crop of artists as they pursue their dreams.”

With Ellen, Katy also touted her album Witness (due 6/9), tour and Boys and Girls Clubs of America partnership (among other things). She also gave the entire studio audience tickets to her show at L.A.'s Staples Center. You can see the interview in two parts below.

Idol is slated to premiere 3/2018. Word is Katy will prep for her judging duties by staring earnestly at a mirror and blurting “a little pitchy, dog.”
