ALANIS' EX-BUSINESS MANAGER GETS
SIX YEARS

Former music industry business manager Jonathan Schwartz, whose clients included Alanis Morissette, was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to pay $8.65m in restitution for wire fraud and falsifying federal tax returns.

The sentence was handed down Wednesday in Federal Court in Los Angeles. Federal prosecutors had recommended a sentence of a little more than five years, which Judge Dolly Gee decided was “not harsh enough.”

Schwartz pled guilty in January to two federal counts: wire fraud and falsifying federal tax returns. Morissette detailed how Schwartz embezzled $5m from her in increments ranging from $10k to $120k. An independent investigation revealed that Schwartz stole $1.7m from six other victims.
