HITS' HIGH FIVE: WEEDING OUT THE BEST

The week between the two editions of Coachella has been filled with Golden State Warrior highlights, binge-watching An Idiot Abroad and wondering what collection of hillbillies will be invited to dinner at the White House. That, plus a debate on whether to send the feds their tax money or blow it on Record Store Day purchases.

There was news as well.

It was a good week for Interscope as Kendrick Lamar was on his way to registering the top debut of the year and Lady Gaga, on the heels of her Coachella performance, dropping "The Cure” and seeing it go straight to #1 at iTunes.

It was also quite a week in Prince news. First, the rumor mill churned with talk of the UMG deal being called off, and then came the announcement of an unauthorized EP release that was stopped by a lawsuit. (Today marks the anniversary of his death).

Harry Styles gave his debut performances as a solo artist on the 4/15 edition of Saturday Night Live, marking the beginning of the month-long setup for his self-titled Columbia LP.

Spotify and Apple Music are working with Facebook as the social media site’s Messenger adds music-sharing functionality. If all 1.2b Facebook users jump in, look out.

Did you notice that Thursday was 4/20? We did.
