SPOTIFY BOLSTERS DATA MIGHT

Spotify has splashed out to acquire London-based data analytics firm Sonalytic, which will help the streamery make smarter recommendations for algorithm powered playlists, and better match songs with compositions to ensure more royalties are attributed correctly.

Sonalytic offers an identification service for songs, and can monitor the use of copyright-protected material and track and analyse listener data. Its discovery arm claims to be able to find the perfect soundtrack for any situation, and the next must-have release based on individual music taste. Spotify will also bring new products to market using Sonalytic’s help.

Reads the announcement: “The Sonalytic team is passionate about creating technology to improve the music ecosystem for artists and fans, and their advancements in audio feature detection will be used in several ways to advance Spotify’s mission.”

Sonalytic joins The Echo Nest and Seed Scientific in Spotify’s stable of data companies it's acquired.
