PRINCE: ROYALLY AWESOME STREAMING NUMBERS

The long-awaited release of the Prince catalog on all on-demand streaming services bore immediate fruit, according to info from BuzzAngle Music. The first two days the music was available (2/12 and 2/13), Prince songs were streamed 5.9 million times.

Previously exclusive to Tidal, the across-the-board availability of Prince’s music resulted in astronomical increases. The last time Prince received more than 5 million streams was on April 29, 2016, just weeks after his death.

This was just the second time in the past six months when more than 1 million Prince tracks were streamed. Total streaming activity on Prince albums increased 5,578 % compared to the previous five days.

During those first two days, Purple Rain was the most streamed album (1,535,608 streams), followed by 1999 (701,153 total streams). “Let’s Go Crazy” was the most streamed song (339, 748 streams).
