Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran has over 215k combined chart sales with his smash comeback singles, that naturally take the top two Official Singles Chart spots midweek stage in Blighty. Indie rock band You Me At Six, meanwhile, are #1 on Official Albums.
After a rather dreary year for the British music industry 2017 has got off to a cracking start. Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” is #1 and “Castle On The Hill” follows at #2 with over 100k combined sales and 4m streams each after just three days on sale.
Rag’N’Bone Man is at #3 with “Human” (Columbia), Clean Bandit end their nine-week #1 run with “Rockabye” down to #4 and “Touch” (Syco) by Little Mix is at #5. There are three high risers in the Top 10 as “September Song” by new Island act JP Cooper is up nine places to #7, “Call On Me” (AATW) by Australian name Starley improves 18 places to #8 and “You Don’t Know Me” by DJ Jax Jones and Raye, a new project from Polydor, vaults 24 places to #9.
On the Official Albums front, You Me At Six, signed to BMG label Infectious, are on course for their second U.K. #1 with fifth set Night People. Little Mix are 1.8k sales behind with Glory Days, while Pete Tong’s Universal-released dance compilation, Classic House, moves down one place to #3.
George Michael fans are continuing to honour the late star as Ladies & Gentlemen (Epic) rises seven place to #4, while, in celebration of what would have been David Bowie’s 70th birthday, his greatest hits set Legacy (Parlophone) is up 13 places to #5.
That’s eight British-born releases in both the singles and albums chart Top 10—a sign of things to come? Also, look for a Top 20 bow by rockers Sundara Karma (on RCA in Blighty).
