REPORT: IHEART TO START STREAMING SERVICE

iHeartMedia is diving into the streaming subscription pool, the New York Post has reported, and an announcement is expected at the iHeart music festival in Las Vegas this week. It will be the first time a traditional radio company has taken a shot at streaming.

The service is expected to offer two tiers: a $5-a-month ad-free radio station and a $10-per-month on-demand service. IHeartMedia Chief Executive Bob Pittman is expected to be the one explaining the service and its roll-out.

To date, iHeartRadio’s strong digital presence has been through its popular app that streams the company’s 850 radio stations. Naturally, they will have to strike a new collection of licenses from rights holders, a process Pandora recently announced it had completed as it moves into the on-demand marketplace.
