WMG ADDS KREIZ TO BOARD

Warner Music Group has increased its Board of Directors to 12 with the election of former Maker Studios CEO Ynon Kreiz to the board.

Kreiz was Executive Chairman, CEO and President of Maker Studios, the short-form video creator that the Walt Disney Co. acquired in 2014. His previous entertainment ventures includes top posts at TV companies Endemol Group, Jetix Europe and Fox Kids Europe.

“Ynon’s global perspective and proven track record of innovation in the entertainment and media space make him ideally suited to join the WMG Board," declared Access Industries chief and label group owner Len Blavatnik.

“With his extensive experience in founding, running, and advising companies in a spectrum of arenas—including digital content development, video and TV production and distribution, and online and interactive programming – he will be an expert voice as we continue to find new ways to grow our business and nurture the careers of our artists and songwriters,” said Steve Cooper, CEO of WMG. “We’re hoping he’ll teach us how to use the Tivo remote.”

With freemium streaming on YouTube an ongoing obstacle for the biz, could the presence of the ex-Maker macher on the WMG board create new or expanded revenue possibilities? Keep, um, watching.
