Indie hip-hop auteur Jaime Meline, aka El-P, of Run the Jewels has joined the Monotone management roster, while his longtime manager Amaechi Uzoigwe has become part of the Ian Montone-led company. Uzoigwe will continue to oversee all aspects of El-P business and co-manage Run the Jewels.
"We work with the best creative minds in the artist community, so bringing El-P and Amaechi into Monotone makes perfect sense,” said Montone in the Monday announcement. El-P recently inked a deal with Rick Rubin's American Songs & Pulse Music Publishing. He produced tracks for the upcoming album from indie rock group The Veils and is in the studio working on the highly anticipated Run the Jewels 3, as well as other projects yet to be announced.
Uzoigwe is a partner in the content company GRAiNEY Pictures, and will continue to operate out of New York City, where Meline is based.
The Monotone roster includes Jack White, Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, The Shins, Danger Mouse, Jamie Foxx, Benjamin Booker, Broken Bells, Cold War Kids, Margo Price and Pete Yorn, among others.
