The fact that the Grammys will air live nationwide this year, starting at 5pm on the West Coast and repeating immediately afterward, has many of those with a vested interest on edge.
Monday happens to be a national holiday, meaning most will be off work or out of school. And with unseasonably warm weather forecast for SoCal, this Presidents Day is shaping up as a day at the beach for lots of locals.
While there are two chances to watch the show and a bigger window for impulse downloading than usual, the notion of sitting in front of a TV or a computer, or staring at a mobile device, could take a backseat to kicking back on a summery midwinter day and evening.
With all these unusual elements in play, CBS’ decision to air the show live could prove to be a questionable one. We shall see.
For casual music fans, the lure of gazing at the sunset from a beach chair or firing up the backyard barbecue may be greater than watching a TV show.
