The double cover of our most recent print edition combines two classic David Bowie images—the high-glam Aladdin Sane of 1973 (courtesy of photographer Masayoshi Sukita and the David Bowie Archives) and a shot to accompany his swan song, Blackstar. Even appearing twice on our earthbound mag won’t dampen his stellar legacy.
Bowie is also the mag’s Contents page VIP. News of the icon’s death shocked the world—he kept his illness very private—but it provides context for the melancholy, searching music on his final album, Blackstar, which will be his first chart-topping debut. The passing of rock’s great chameleon elicited the sort of fan outpouring not seen for years, and illustrates how powerfully he inspired listeners with both music and message. We hope the inimitable artist sees this HITS Contents shout-out as the tribute it’s intended to be.
