NEW U.K. RELEASES: SUMMER TIME IN BLIGHTY
It’s all eyes on Nick Raphael’s Capitol Records in Blighty this coming week, with the new album from Aussie act 5 Seconds of Summer due out Friday (10/23). “Hey Everybody,” the second single from Sounds Good Feels Good, has had 964 plays across all U.K. radio this past chart week, while the video has registered over 2m views on Vevo since it appeared last Friday (10/16). Impressive numbers, but will that be enough to propel the pop-punk foursome to the top of the U.K. Official Albums Chart? Raphael certainly hopes so.
Preorders for Sounds Good Feels Good stand at 30k in the U.K. and 100k+ on the other side of the pond. It's up against the new album from veteran name Bryan Adams, whose Get Up is getting a U.K. release via Polydor. The album charted at #6 in Australia earlier this month.
Singles-wise, the campaign for the fourth album from Island singer/songwriter James Morrison heats up with the release of “Demons.” The track precedes the release of Higher Than Here by a week and has had 870 plays across all U.K. radio this past week. It's currently sitting on the BBC Radio 2 B List.
Elsewhere, London electronic outfit Snakehips have teamed up with hip-hop stars Tinashe and Chance the Rapper for “All My Friends,” out via Columbia. The track has had lots of love on various blogs so far but has yet to fully make an impact at radio. Will Friday change that? Look out for an update early next week.
