SPOTIFY TOPS iTUNES APP CHART

Spotify has hit a new milestone—the service has moved into the #1 spot on the iTunes App Store’s Top Grossing chart on Wednesday for the first time in the U.S. Previously, Spotify's highest ranking was #3, which is where it is again this morning.

This news flash comes on the heels of Apple CEO Tim Cook's revelation that 6.5m of Apple Music's 11m initial trial subscribers have stayed on.

The growth of the streaming marketplace helps all the big players, and Spotify is (as was widely predicted) benefiting from the greater marketing exposure given to streaming overall.

The fact that other streaming apps, including Pandora, Soundcloud, Rhapsody and Rdio, have held relatively consistent rankings in the days since the first round of Apple Music trials ended also suggests that more people than ever are now coming to the party.
