RIGHT ON CUE, EDDY COUGHS UP THE NUMBERS

Apple’s Eddy Cue has finally publicly stated what he’s been telling label heads for weeks—that 11 million people have signed up for the Apple Music 90-day trial. Speaking on Wednesday with USA Today, Cue broke down that total, stating that 9m of the signees are individuals, while the other 2m opted for the $14.99 family plan. “We're thrilled with the numbers so far," he said.

Assuming all the trial memberships are converted into paying customers come October—a big assumption, to be sure—Apple would already boast half the paid memberships of Spotify, the story points out.

July also brought a fiscal high-water mark for the App Store, which did a record $1.7 billion in transactions, "with particular momentum in China," Cue noted. That brings the total amount paid to app developers to $33 billion, up from $25 billion at the end of 2014.
