COUNTING APPLES

The website 9to5mac has been polling its tech devotees over the past three weeks about Apple Music, and the results have been quite revealing.

As of today, 33% of respondents said that they switched to Apple Music from Spotify, while less than 3% switched from other services, including Pandora, Rdio, Google Play Music, and Tidal.

But the real headline is that 19% said Apple Music was their first streaming service. As widely predicted, Apple has the inherent reach to entice a whole new group of new customers into the streaming music paradigm.

What remains to be seen however, is how awareness will expand after Apple launches its worldwide marketing push—especially considering the iconic status of many past marketing campaigns by the company.

The poll is not a total victory however, since nearly 23% said they didn't use the Apple service at all and 17% admitted they would stop using Apple Music at the end of their free trial.
