GUITARS, CADILLACS, AWARDS

Renowned country-rock iconoclast Dwight Yoakam was honored with the Career Achievement Award by Country Radio Broadcasters at the 41st annual Country Radio Hall of Fame dinner Wednesday night in Nash Vegas.

“I haven’t gotten a lot of awards,” Yoakam said as he accepted the award, “but one thing I did have was great support from Country radio… Radio was and is magic to my ears. Thank you for being that voice in my ear. And thank you for honoring me tonight.”

Yoakam’s latest LP, the critically embraced Second Hand Heart, was his highest-charting album since 1988’s Buenas Noches From a Lonely Room hit #1. The Boston Herald’s Jed Gottlieb hit the nail on the head, noting, “If this is a country album, it’s the best I’ve heard all year. If it’s a rock album, well, it may be the best I’ve heard all year.”

Well-deserved, as you’ll see if you watch the video for “Liar” from the new record.
