DAVE GOLDBERG, R.I.P.

Tech Exec and Former Yahoo Music Head Was Half of Famed Silicon Valley Power Couple

Dave Goldberg, chief executive of tech research powerhouse SurveyMonkey, died on Friday night of undisclosed causes; he was 47.

The Minneapolis native and Harvard grad began his career at Capitol Records; he co-founded the CD-ROM music mag Launch Media in 1993. Launch was subsequently purchased by Yahoo, and he served as the head of Yahoo Music in 2001. Prior to arriving at SurveyMonkey in 2009—which he built into a sector leader with 500 employees and a $2 billion valuation—Goldberg spent two years at Benchmark Capital.

Goldberg is survived by his wife, Facebook COO and Lean In author Sheryl Sandberg, and their children.

His friends and family have invited those who knew him to post memories on this Facebook page. A representative post reads:

“There is a long list of the things I've always admired about you: your patience and values as a father, your confidence, your love of Sheryl and your partnership, your humbleness and focus as a leader, your ability to make anyone feel important, your willingness to make time for people … and your incredible friendship. The list is long.”
