Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Pluth’s Paul Walker tribute “See You Again” is still massive, though 19% less so than the previous week, but there are two more feel-good stories on the leaderboard.
“Shut Up + Dance” from Cincinnati’s own Walk the Moon has moved up two slots to #2 on a 7% uptick, jumping RCA labelmate Mark Ronson’s still ubiquitous Record of the Year contender “Uptown Funk.”
And Little Big Town’s envelope-pushing country crossover “Girl Crush” was catching fire even before Sunday night’s ACM Awards, which pushed the week-over-week increase to 126%. This wildfire continues to burn out of control—the track is up to #3 on the iTunes chart (right behind “Shut Up + Dance”) as of Thursday morning. It’s really heartening to see the belief of the band, manager Jason Owen and UMG Nashville prexy Cindy Mabe rewarded in such dramatic fashion. There are some records we just can’t help rooting for, and “Girl Crush” is that record in this moment.
