KROQ BIDS FAREWELL TO ONE OF THE FAMILY

"Spacin'" Scott Mason, a longtime player at L.A. flagship station KROQ, has died. Mason "a fixture" at the station from its earliest days, according to a Facebook post from fellow KROQ vet Richard Blade; an on-air standard-bearer and programmer, he also helped create (and initially hosted) what became the hugely successful Love Line call-in show and served as West Coast Director of Engineering for CBS Radio. He battled health problems over the years, and prompted a kidney donation from the station's Gene "Bean" Baxter. "He helped lay the foundation that built KROQ and changed music forever," noted Blade. "He will be sadly missed."
