The media frenzy surrounding Apple’s deal with HBO for a $14.99-per-month subscription service and a subsequent, widely picked-up report in The Wall Street Journal that the company is negotiating with the networks for a Web TV streaming service expected to be priced at $30-40 have upstaged the iTunes/Beats initiative. Lest we forget, in the big world, the television business is simply higher in the food chain than music, and—as important as it appears to be for the future of the music biz—iTunes/Beats is but one of numerous flavors of Tim & Eddy’s ice cream being whipped up.
