Elizabeth Matthews has been tapped as the new CEO of ASCAP, succeeding John LoFrumento, who retired at the end of 2014 after a 17-year stint atop the PRO.
Matthews, previously ASCAP EVP and General Counsel, begins her tenure immediately. She served at Viacom/MTV Networks prior to joining the org; in her capacity as General Counsel she played a key role in modernizing its licensing systems and pushing reform of its consent decree; she also led support for the Songwriter Equity Act in Congress.
President/Chairman Paul Williams praised her experience, biz knowledge and "passion for protecting the rights of music creators."
