Original Songs Nixed at Oscars

NO SONGS AT OSCARS: Deadline Hollywood’s Nikki Finke reports there will be no songs performed at this year’s Academy Awards telecast to help shave off time and expense from the telecast. That means Ryan Bingham, whose “The Weary Kind,” the theme from Crazy Heart, won’t be there, nor will fellow nominee Randy Newman, who has a pair of songs up for an Oscar from The Princess and the Frog. The other two nominated songs are Maury Yestin’s “Take It All,” performed by Marion Cottillard in Nine and the little-heard “Loin de Paname” from Paris 36. (2/16p)
