John Oates' Mustache

JOHN OATES’ MUSTACHE: J-Stache, the alter ego of John Oates’ one-time mustache, is the star of a cartoon and a new iPhone game, launched by Primary Wave Music, the publishing company that jointly owns the Daryl Hall & John Oates catalog. Although he hasn’t had the furry lip for two decades, John admits, “My mustache has become this weird iconic representation of a certain era.” Give credit for the idea to PW creative director Evan Duby, who developed the campaign for a cost of less than $100k. In the “Run, J-Stache, Run” iPhone app, players compete to slide Oates’ facial air through a series of mazes. Last Halloween, Oates performed at ‘Stache Bash 20098 in St. Louis, a charity fund-raiser organized by the satirical American Mustache Institute. (3/11p)
