Performance Rights Chatter

YOU’VE GOT TO FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT: Leading music business attorney Jay Cooper, speaking in L.A. at a Beverly Hills Bar seminar on the Performance Rights Act, insists passage of the bill would generate $100 million in revenue for labels and artists from overseas airplay alone, urging artists to get active in the fight. Because the U.S. doesn’t support performance royalties for domestic airplay, American artists do not get paid internationally, where radio performance rights are already standard. Artists and musicians can learn how they can help create a radio performance right by visiting the musicFIRST Coalition website at www.musicFIRSTCoalition.org/join. (3/17p)
