According to insiders, nothing could be further from the truth. “Irving Azoff and Rapino are joined at the hip,” said one source. “They’re in it for the long haul.” The rumors are being traced back to the media spin doctoring of AEG’s Randy Phillips, reportedly frustrated that his company lost out to Live Nation in its bid to merge with Ticketmaster. After attempting unsuccessfully to derail the merger, Phillips is now intent on “destabilizing” the relationship between Rapino and Azoff.
