stats on TV, Internet usage

THE EYES HAVE IT: The latest research from Nielsen reveals that 116 million American households now have at least one TV (up 1% over last year), but 55% of those households have three or more. "There are more TVs in this country than there are people," noted Nielsen analyst Patricia McDonough. We now spend 35 hours and 34 minutes per week watching TV in real time, and another two hours watching shows we’ve programmed. And yet we somehow find time to go online as well—78% of those of us with Internet access do so every day, according to data from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. Of those, 62% send or receive email; 49% use a search engine, 43% get news, 38% do social networking, another 38% go online "just for fun or to pass the time" and 23% watch videos. In the latter category, we average 20 minutes a week watching videos on PCs and four minutes watching videos on a mobile phone, says Nielsen.
