Gervais too mean?

MEAN TEASING: Ricky Gervais’ two-year run as host of the Golden Globes may have come to a screeching halt last night. After skewering everyone from Tom Cruise to the HFPA itself, Gervais took some ad-libbed shots from the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Tom Hanks and Tim Allen during their onstage appearances, and the host was nowhere to be seen for an hour in the middle of the broadcast. His more subdued demeanor when he reappeared led The Hollywood Reporter to suspect that the bad boy had been severely chastened backstage. (1/17a)
