Grammy Ratings

GRAMMY WHAMMY: Call it the Esperanza Spalding effect, but give the Recording Academy's Neil Portnow some props. Despite the online critical brickbats, CBS’ 2011 Grammys averaged 26.55 million viewers, the show’s largest audience in 10 years. The show dominated the evening, peaking at 9 p.m. with a 10.5 demo rating among adults 18-49. Credit the presence of superstars Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Eminem, Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger, among others, as well as the full-on assault at social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, with Grammys ranking at the top of trending topics. How long will it be before CBS, like ABC with the Oscars, decides to take away the tape delay on the west coast which makes the results anti-climactic? (2/14p)
