TOUCHING BASE WITH: Longtime A&R exec and music journalist Mitchell Cohen, whose contract as VP A&R with UMG’s Verve label runs out later this summer, when he will become a sought-after free agent. Among his succesess at the label was Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, the New Orleans musician featured in HBO’s hit series Treme who was nominated for a Best Contemporary Jazz Album Grammy last year for his breakthrough, Brackatown, which featured guest appearances by Lenny Kravitz and Allen Toussaint.
