Burkle Buying Spree

EXPENSIVE TOYS: Looks like Ron Burkle really wants to buy something more glamorous than another supermarket chain. The L.A.-based billionaire, who’s the reported high bidder for Warner Music, has joined an investement group fronted by team legend Steve Garvey pursuing the L.A. Dodgers, the L.A. Times reported over the weekend. The news came on the heels of the news that Burkle might buy the Sacramento Kings and finance the construction of a new arena in support of the effort to keep the city’s only major sports franchise from moving to Anaheim. Burkle teamed with Mario Lemieux to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1999, and he’s pursued the Pittsburgh Pirates (?!) and Washington Nationals in recent years. (4/22a)
