Weiss memo

BARRY DOING WORK: Barry Weiss disseminated an internal memo to staff this afternoon confirming that Sylvia Rhone has stepped down from the presidency of Universal Motown, while also acknowledging that “We continue to be in discussions with her on how and where she can best utilize her skills and relationships in the multiple rights arena in which UMG continues to expand.” Motown, he said, will now report to him, while current GM Pat Monaco will continue to oversee the day-to-day. After promising “further enhancements” to the UMRG staff over the next few weeks, Weiss reiterated the parent company’s commitment to the label. “Our mandate with regards to Motown is clear: to have this vital and robust company continue bringing to market the highest quality music that is best positioned to succeed artistically and commercially,” he stated.
