Coldplay plays over US Open close

A RUSH OF GOOSEBUMPS TO THE ARM: Coldplay’s new “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” got some big-time TV Sunday afternoon when it played over the closing credits of NBC’s U.S. Open final round coverage June 19 over footage of 22-year-old winner Rory McIlroy, who’s from Northern Ireland. It was a perfect match of sound and picture, coming off like a U2 anthem in which Johnny Buckland’s guitar arpeggios seem to channel the late Stuart Adamson, specifically his bagpipe-y runs on “In a Big Country.” Thrilling moment.
