Wilfred Debuts

A DOG GETS HIS DAY: Plenty of buzz about tonight’s premiere of Wilfred on FX (10 p.m.), executive producer Jeff Kwatinetz’s newest TV entry, starring Elijah Wood as a suicidal ex-lawyer whose life is saved by a pot-smoking, talking dog played by Aussie actor Jason Gunn, who created the role in the original series from Down Under (featured on the IFC website embedded below). The L.A. Times compared it to Harvey, The Producers, Harold and Maude, Thelma & Louise and The In-Laws as well as classic TV shows Mr. Ed, Topper and The People’s Choice, the ‘50s sitcom with a wise-cracking bassett hound named Cleo.
