Motown gets Marvin buzzin' on Facebook

THE PRINCE OF SOUL HAS LOTS OF FRIENDS: Motown
has launched a Facebook campaign to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Marvin Gaye’s landmark opus, What’s Going On. The premise is for people to post photos, stories and images about “What’s going on in your world?” on the Marvin Gaye fan page, and it’s working—the fanbase for the page has jumped from south of 300k to 900k in less than a week. The late, great artist/writer/producer now has to be considered a social media star, turning up as a Twitter trend after the release of Kanye West and Big Sean’s “Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay.” (6/24a)
