LYOR’S VINYL FETISH: In conjunction with I.B. Bad’s latest column, which contains some dramatic revelations about Lyor Cohen, we offer this quote, in which the WMG big shot confesses to one of his private passions. “Vinyl will definitely outlast CDs because of the resonance, the sound,” Cohen predicts in a Forbes story on the resurgent format. “The quality is closest to the way the artist wants you to hear it. Neil Young is working on analog digital sound– sound that was intended to be heard as he made it.” And when asked which format will remain millennia from now, when only cockroaches are left, Lyor had a ready answer. “The cockroaches, I think they’ll prefer listening to vinyl,” he quipped. “They’ll probably use the CDs as mirrors to doll themselves up.” (7/15a)
